Katy High School PTO (Friends of Katy HS) is offering Katy High School college or technical school bound seniors the opportunity to apply for a scholarship.  A minimum of 10 scholarships will be awarded.

Scholarship Qualifications:

1. The applicant must have been enrolled at Katy High School in his/her Junior and Senior years.

2. The applicant or parent must be a member of Katy High School PTO (Friends of Katy HS) by the application deadline – March 1, 2024.  [You need to verify membership by contacting friendsofkatyhigh@gmail.com]

3. Post High School Education enrollment in the Fall following graduation.

4. Must be involved in community activities.

5. Complete and submit the application and essay following ALL instructions indicated on this sheet.

Scholarship Instructions:

1. Confirm that you have met the qualifications (requirements), as listed above.

 2. Complete the three-page application and return it to the Counselors' office by March 1, 2024.

(The Applicant # should be left blank and will be assigned by the Counselors' office.)

3. On the last page of the application, please list (on the form) any extracurricular activities that you have been involved in at Katy High School AND any community activities that you have participated in, INCLUDING work experience. Include the frequency of these activities and when they took place.

[Examples: Katy High School textbook check out (25 hrs Aug. 2022 & 15 hrs Aug. 2023), Camp of Champs basketball camp (3 weeks summer 2021 and 2022, approx. 100 hours each summer), Youth Mission program repairing homes of indigent clients (summers 2020 & 2021 approx. 40 hours each summer)].

4. On a SEPARATE sheet of paper, write an essay, double spaced and NO more than 175 words, discussing why the scholarship is desired. The essay might include describing one experience that significantly influenced your academic or personal interests, such as a high school course, a job, a relationship, or an extracurricular activity. Be sure to explain how this experience led to you setting the goals you now have for yourself.  Not submitting this essay will disqualify your application. Please give adequate thought to this essay, as it is very important in the selection process.

 5. Do NOT attach a resume, reference letters or any other document with your name on it.

6. Be sure to sign and date the bottom of page one. (DO NOT put any identifying information on any other page to assure anonymity in the selection process.)  

7. Don't forget the deadline is March 1, 2024. Completed forms and attachments MUST be returned to your Counselor by March 1, 2024!

Scholarship recipients will be notified on Senior Awards Night. The recipients will be notified at that time of the specific information needed to facilitate receipt of the scholarship monies. The scholarship money will be sent directly to the financial office of the college or trade school that you will be attending. Proof of college enrollment and all other information required for payment of scholarship money must be submitted ASAP but no later than September 1st, following graduation.
